City trip to Utrecht

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

DSC_0039Last Saturday some people who wanted to do a city trip to Utrecht invited me to come along. I’ve never really been to Utrecht, so I decided to tag along. With me and Bart being almost complete strangers to Utrecht and the other two being foreign students, Bart had to call one of his friends and have her lead us around Utrecht. Which worked out perfectly.

Actually, Utrecht is quite nice. I knew a bit of it, since I’ve been to some parties near the oude gracht, but also during daytime and without too much alcohol, the atmosphere is good. It was a bit hard for me to take pictures, because every time I tried I lost the four others whom I maybe should warn in advance in the future. But still, I made a couple of them, check them out in the gallery: Trip to Utrecht and finals Nootuitgang.

Burton Tack JacketBut in the end, when you visit new cities you have to spend some time shopping. I have been looking for a summer coat for ages in Eindhoven, walked into and out of every shop at least three times and didn’t find a thing. But in Utrecht I found a good coat quite easy which I bought right away.
After all the strolling, we had way too much dinner in some Greek restaurant. And we spent some time watching ‘the Hot Stewards” at some festival we strolled into. Apparently it was the last show of festival aan de werf. And it was actually quite nice, with some weird mashups of Whitney Houston like numbers over rock music. I really don’t know what to think about it, but before I was able to form a definite judgment, we had to go back to Eindhoven because of lack of time and surplus of rain.

DSC_0076In Eindhoven we were supposed to visit the finals of ‘Nootuitgang’, a Dutch singer/songwriter contest. Of course we took too much time in Utrecht, so when we got back it was already the last performance. Luckily enough, it were the winners doing their winning song one last time. So we have seen the best out there, which is nice. Afterparty lasted for a bit with Michael and Rik shredding it up with some horrible, horrible beats. And some horrible, horrible remixes…

A Saturday well spent, I’d say.
